What to Expect During Your Child’s First Orthodontic Exam
Not only will you get to meet our orthodontist, Dr. Amy, and her amazing staff at your first appointment, your child will also have a thorough exam, including x-rays and digital imaging of their teeth and jaws.
This information will be used to start your child’s dental history and will enable us to track their development.
If early treatment would be helpful, we’ll discuss potential treatment plans, costs, and timelines. If not, we’ll schedule another appointment about six months out. All appointments are free until treatment begins, which is often the teen years.
The Benefits of Seeing an Orthodontist at Age 7
Children between the ages of 7 and 10 don’t have all of their adult teeth yet, which may make it seem too early to see an orthodontist. But starting them this early has several benefits:
- Allows orthodontist to view and record oral development
- Developmental issues can be addressed while jaws are still growing, making treatment quicker, easier, and less costly
- Child is already comfortable with orthodontist and team when treatment is needed
- Knowing what treatment may be needed in a few years gives you time to save or figure out how to fit monthly payments into your budget.
